Plum Tree is one of four cottages that have been restored to provide modern conveniences whilst retaining all the charm of a typical French farmhouse. Leaving in lots of the original features, like granite walls and exposed oak beams. A perfect place for all the family to unwind, either by the pool or under a tree with a good book and a glass of wine. Although in a quiet location, we are 5 mins from the village centre with its bar-tabac-restaurant-shop, and 10 mins from Louvigne du Desert with its, shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Also nearby are attractions like Mont Saint Michel, water and floral parks, walking and cycle tracks, trout fishing, horse riding, canoeing,Chateax and wonderful beaches.

Plum Tree Cottage: (sleeps 4)
The ground floor consists of an open plan lounge, kitchen & dining area with a wood burner, some granite walls and exposed oak beams and a door leading to a private covered veranda, and then onto the shared gardens. The 1st floor has a shower room and 2 bedrooms, a double room and a room with bunk beds both with granite walls and exposed oak beams. There is electric heating in the shower room and bedrooms for the cooler months, these are on for 4 hours a day 2 hours in the morning and evening. Also included in the price is your initial supply of logs, extra available at 8 euros a basket. In the summer months the children all play together leaving the parents able to make friends have a chat and relax knowing the kids are enjoying themselves. There are lots for the children to play with in the large, safe gardens. The heated pool, badmington, table football, swingball, table tennis a 14ft trampoline with safety nets and a boules pit.

Activities:
There are 2 waterparcs nearby, Parc St Ange only 10 mins drive with 35 activities and suitable for children of all ages even grown ups!! Cobac Parc suitable for children and adults and is 45 mins away. This park is much larger, with an adult quad bike track. Paint-balling 5 mins away an excellent day out for teenagers and adults. Close by there is also fishing on day passes and horse-riding. The area is also well known for its many bike tracks for cyclists (bikes avaiable for hire and delivered to your door) and quided and non- quided walks. La Basse Rouerie is situated on part of the 18km patrimone walk noted for its granite and nature. All in all the area has something to offer everybody, lazy days at the farmhouse taking in the natural beauty of the Bretagne countryside. Sipping wine under a tree in the orchard whilst reading a good book, lounging by the pool or sight-seeing. You choose it will be difficult though with so much on offer.

The Area:
La Basse Rouerie is situated on the Brittany/ Normandy borders. Here you can spend days on the magnificent beaches known as the Emerald coast, visit walled towns or just walk through the lovely countryside, something for everyone. Mellé is about an hours drive from the port of St Malo, this is also an excellent place to visit, with a walled town and miles of sandy beaches and hidden coves. Just along the coast is Dinard, it has a casino and an airport. Cancale the oyster capital of France is just along the coast with wonderful fish restaurants. The large towns of Rennes, Dinan and Domfront are also worth a visit as they are full of history and only an hour's drive. A 30 min drive takes you to Mont Saint Michel the 2nd most visited place in France. Half an hour's drive will take you to the walled town of Fougeres with its château, St Hilaire a lively market town and Mortain known for its water falls.

La Basse Rouerie History
La Basse Rouerie is a Breton farmhouse and Longere that dates back nearly 600 years in parts. There are two and a half acres of gardens to relax and unwind in with views across undulating farmland, there is also a heated pool in the orchard. It started life as a hemp farm, later it was a dairy and cider farm. The old barrels are now located at the entrance to the property. We bought the farm in 2000 when it had been empty and unloved for nearly 20 years. It took 3 years of loving care to breathe new life into her and we are now in our 5th year of business. We have lots of warm memories of the families that have stayed here, from all over England, Europe, America and Australia. Many of them have returned several times and it is always good to see them.

Why Brittany.....
Try tasting the local cider and following the cider route, which weaves through the Normandy and Brittany countryside. Many welcome visitors offering guided tours of the cellars and have tasting's. While here try our own cider its delicious. Calvados is a fine distilled spirit, it is the final destiny of the apple. The age of a good calvados is important, at least 20 years old is best. Pommeau is Normandy's own aperitif and is made from a mixture of cider and calvados. Many freshly made cheeses are a speciality of the area, and can be sampled in all the local markets and supermarkets. There is a cheese farm 10 mins away that has open days twice a week in July & August. Freshly baked bread and delicious cakes are abundant in the patisseries and local boulangeries.

Why Brittany cont....
Pancakes are Brittany's famous speciality and come in two varieties. Crepes which are made with a batter of wheat flour and usually have a sweet filling, and Galettes which are made with buckwheat flour and contain a savoury filling, usually a huge sausage. They can be bought at any local market and the many creperies. We are sure you will enjoy your stay in this beautiful part of Brittany, which is so near to the Normandy border. A gastronomic delight and a sightseeing paradise, and don't forget the kid's there are loads on offer for them as well.
