The region
The Charente Maritime offers many pleasures to the vacationers. Easily accessible from
the airports of La Rochelle and Bordeaux, we are close to the vineyards of Cognac and
the Bordeaux region. Some of the best farmers' markets in France are located here,
specializing in local seafood, fruit and vegetables. The terrain is perfect for walking
or cycling, with villages every few km where one can stop for refreshments. Roman ruins
are found in several locations, and almost every village has an interesting church. the
nest beaches in France begin 25 km from the house and extend a further 100km to the
Atlantic islands. The zoo at Palymre can occupy children (and adults) for an entire
day, or can be combined with a visit to the oyster pools. As well, the area is a
birdwatchers paradise.
|
The village
The house is located in the hamlet of Les Tards, which is part of the village of La
Clisse, 10 km from the market town of Saintes. Within 4 km there are severeal villages
where one can find a restaurant, bar, bakery, post office, butcher or small general
store, and larger shops can be found in Saintes.
|
The house
Once a stone farmhouse, Chez Louise has been renovated and enlarged to now include a
large kitchen, two bedrooms, living room, bathroom and laundry room. Its traditional
charm has been preserved, with oddly-shaped rooms, a kitchen with a stone fireplace and
beams, and some interior stone walls. An addition includes a large modern bathroom
(shower) and laundry room. The interior is brightly painted, and the furniture
comfortable. The fitted kitchen also includes an eating area for 6, and a sitting area
around a wood-burning stove set in the stone fireplace. The living room and downstairs
bedroom both open onto a tiled terrace where one can enjoy breakfast - or lunch or
dinner - surrounded by a lovely garden. the house is heated throughout and is suitable
for winter occupancy. It is ideally suited to a family with several children, two
couples, or several friends, and the main floor bathroom and bedroom will also suit
those prefer not to use stairs.
