Hunters Lodge is set in the small hamlet of Bonnezac and is approximately 1.5 kms from the village of Chatain which boasts its own bakers and a bar/restaurant. The property is set in its own private grounds of approximately 1 acre. The nearest large towns are Ruffec and Civray about 20Kms away. The pretty town of Confolens is also only 25kms and hosts the dancing and musical spectacular in August. The stone cottage has recently been renovated on the outside and refurbished to a high standard on the inner, but still retains the original charm and features of a rural cottage.

The cottage
The Walnut Tree is a stone built long house, consisting of a large bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and dressing table leaving plenty of space for relaxing. The bathroom and separate toilet are adjacent to the bedroom just off of the utility room. The water heater and washing machine are located here. The kitchen is open plan and looks down through the house to the wood burning fire nestling at the far end of the lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, fridge, fan assisted electric oven and gas hob. The comfortable dining area will seat up to 5 persons as will the lounge. There is also a bed settee in the lounge to enable an extra 2 persons to sleep. A satellite television in the lounge allows you to relax with a comprehensive selection of DVD's and the popular ITV and BBC stations. Plenty of books and games are in the house. Two mountain bikes are available for guest use.
|
Gardens
The Walnut Tree is set in its own secluded grounds surrounded by open fields. At the front of the house is a delightful garden with parking for 2 cars. At the rear of the house is situated the barbecue area with table and chairs and sun umbrella. The gardens are laid mainly to lawn with fruit trees and bushes. The setting is ideal for just relaxing, taking walks in the surrounding countryside, cycling, or for the more adventurous there is fishing on the Charente, canoing, golf and horse riding all within 1/2 hours drive.
|
Surrounding area
The coastal towns of La Rochelle and Royan are to the west of the property about 1½ hours drive. Cognac is also approximately 1½ hours away with all its fine cognac houses open to the public. Futuroscope is in the direction of Poitiers and is an hours drive away, well worth the visit to be placed in amazing situations. The large magnificent cities of both Angouleme and Poitiers are steeped in history and are abundant with old architecture, theatres and modern shopping malls.
