Location, location, location
Set in the gently rolling countryside, just 20 minutes from the coast, there is plenty to see and do in the area: La Rochelle, Cognac, Saintes, Rochefort, the rivers Charente and Boutonne. Situated at the edge of a small farming hamlet, the nearest town is only 4 Kms away and major supermarkets are 15 Kms. There are many pretty market towns to explore and lots of great restaurants. A full range of water sports are available at La Rochelle, Fouras and Chatelaillon. Canoeing and fishing are nearby on the Boutonne and Charente Rivers.

Newly Converted
Rosalinde is the second of our 3 barn conversions and is now ready for the 2006 season. The cottage has a very large open-plan kitchen/diner with living area. The kitchen is fully equipped and this room has French windows leading out onto a private, enclosed patio and then up a step into the private lawned garden. Beyond the garden you can explore the 3 acres of grounds and enjoy the 10 x 5 metre swimming pool. There are plenty of toys to amuse the kids including swings and a climbing frame and their very own chateau! The cottage has 3 bedrooms - a double with ensuite shower room, a twin bedroom and a bunk- bed room. A cot, high chair and stairgate are available on request, as is an extra single bed.The family bathroom has a shower over the bath and there is a separate toilet.

Organic produce
Each cottage has its own soft fruit (cherries, strawberries and raspberries) in season as well as a herb garden. We keep chicken, ducks and geese and free-range eggs are available for our guests, together with seasonal vegetables from the organic vegetable garden. Cherries, plums, peaches, apricots, apples, pears and walnuts are all available in season. The children can help feed the livestock and collect the eggs. Our pot- bellied pig Dizzy is a big favourite with children and grown-ups alike.

A wildlife haven
The area is a haven for nature lovers and bird watchers. This is an agricultural community and the local farm life revolves around sunflowers, dairy herds and maize. These three products provide an ideal environment for birds and wildlife with plenty of land left idle each year. The bird life includes guaranteed spring/summer sightings of nesting storks, 3 species of heron, hoopoes, stone curlews, buzzards, marsh and hen harriers, as well as the more common black redstarts, tits, warblers, goldfinches and wagtails. The most patient bird watchers will enjoy the rare sighting of a golden oriole, and you frequently hear their trill and warble and you will be serenaded most evenings by the nightingales.

Children Welcome
Children are especially welcome at Les Landes and we have tried to provide everything that they will need for a memorable holiday. There are swings and climbing ropes and a tent chateau for them to enjoy in the grounds, the swimming pool has lots of inflatable toys and the children are encouraged to help feed the animals and collect the eggs and produce. For the wet days, or quiet evenings at home we provide videos and books for young and old and there are many local attractions for children of all ages. Cots, high- chairs, stairgates and children's furniture are all available on request.
